Residential Air Conditioning (A/C) Rebates
AMU customers may be eligible to receive a rebate when purchasing both the condensing unit and coil for a new energy efficient A/C unit where AMU is the electric service provider. To be considered energy efficient, the A/C must be rated with a SEER of 14.0 or higher according to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). See Rules & Requirements section for more information.
Here’s a tip to save even more! Tuning-up and cleaning your outside air conditioning unit can save up to 30% of the cost to operate. Be sure to check your furnace filter once a month by holding it up to a bright light. If you can’t see through it, it’s time to clean or replace the filter! Check out our Ways To Save & Conserve Energy page for other ideas to save money on your bill.
If you are a "do-it-yourselfer", few routine chores will pay off more handsomely, both in comfort and in dollars saved, than a simple air-conditioner cleaning. The payoff: Summertime comfort and lower cooling bills. You’ll also prolong the life of your air conditioner. View step by step instructions or call your local air conditioning contractor.
Rebate Amount

- A/C with SEER rating of 15.0-15.9: $75.00
- A/C with SEER rating of 16.0 and up: $100.00
Rules & Requirements
- Anoka Municipal Utility (AMU) residential customers are eligible for rebates when buying a new energy efficient central air conditioner to be used where the electricity is supplied by AMU.
- Energy efficiency is determined by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). The AHRI’s Unitary Directory is used to identify product classification, determine efficiency ratings, and confirm matched systems. Non-matched assemblies are not certified by the AHRI and are not eligible for rebate. The AHRI directory may be found on their website or by calling 315-737-5180.
- AMU reserves the right to conduct random inspections to verify installation of the central air conditioner at the address indicated on the front of this form. If AMU inspects the appliance, the rebate application will not be processed until the inspection has been satisfactorily completed. Inspections may be performed after the rebate payment at AMU’s discretion.
- Must purchase both the condensing unit and the coil to receive a rebate.
- Central air conditioners (A/C) must be energy efficient with a SEER of 14.0 or higher for rebates.
- Does not need to be ENERGY STAR® .
- If interested in ENERGY STAR® products, visit the Energy Star website or call 1-888-782-7937.
- Talk to your dealer to find out which brands and models may be eligible for AMU rebates. AMU is not responsible if your dealer provided inaccurate information about the amount and/or conditions of the actual rebate.
- Central air conditioners must be energy efficient, having a SEER of 14.0 or higher for rebates. Rebates will be issued only for high-efficiency air conditioners units, and it is the responsibility of the customer and contractor to verify current SEER meets the 14.0 minimum standard.
- The unit must be installed by a registered contractor. AMU does not endorse, certify, or guarantee the work performed by a registered contractor.
- A/C rebate applications require a Technician's Test Form (PDF) , including airflow and refrigerant charge tests, along with their signature verification of completion.
- AMU residential customers must apply for rebates within twelve (12) months of the purchase date shown on the sales receipt.
- Limit one rebate per residential customer account. The unit must be installed where electric service is provided by AMU on a retail basis.
- Credit will be applied to the customer's AMU account associated with residence of A/C install.
- AMU Customer signature/electronic signature is required. Customer must be listed on the AMU utility bill matching installation address for which rebate may apply.
- Failure to complete all rebate application information, or to provide documentation required, will result in a rejection of the application. AMU reserves the right to conduct random inspections to verify installation of the A/C at the address indicated on the front of this form. If AMU inspects the appliance, the rebate application will not be processed until the inspection has been satisfactorily completed. Inspections may be performed after the rebate payment at AMU’s discretion.
- Rebate qualifications and amounts are subject to change at any time. AMU conservation rebate programs may be cancelled or changed without notice. AMU customers should check with AMU to determine whether program changes have occurred and if rebate funds are still available.
